Still here

Well, I am still in China. That hasn't changed. My website is still unaccessable to me from my own computer. But strangely, some people can access my website from within China from other computers, but not all the time. I can upload pages to my website, but I just can't view it. That is the funny thing about the Great Chinese Firewall, it blankets out servers from showing content that the government doesn't like. It may not be that my website has any forbidden material at all, simply that it is on a Yahoo! Server that contains content the government doesn't like, so boom, my website becomes unavailable to be seen. But there should be no problems for people anywhere else on the globe from visiting my website. My alternative is to find another web hosting company that is not blocked, but that is like me throwing darts and hoping to hit a bull's eye.
Anyway, I have been plodding along in my studying for the CFA examination. I want to yell myself regularly for not working hard enough in math class when I was younger. The math classes I took when I was at ASU a few years back are proving to be of value now, but I am still just slow to pick things up.
If I really need help, there are a few billion math wiz kids in China that I can ask for help. It seems the average Chinese high school student has better math skills than me. BUT, I will not be deterred from success in this endeavor. Of course I don't want to fail the first time I take the test, but I can take it again and again until I pass. It just costs several hundred dollars just to take the exam!
In other news, I have started a serious translation business with my good friend who helped me get this apartment. She is very trustworthy, hardworking, and capable, and knowledgeable about the translation business.
We opened a office in north Beijing very close to where the Olympic games will be held. It has about 10 desks and is near a new train station that will be open this summer. Everywhere around that office there are new office towers being constructed. We have hired a few sales people and will need a couple of project managers. The demand domestically for Chinese-English translation services is huge. By being a partner, lending my name and stamp of authenticity/quality to the work and business, we have a important edge over the competition. I will be partner, manager and proofreader for time being.
The company is called Powers Translation and the website, once it goes online will be www.powerstranslation.com . We have Chinese name too, but I can't remember it off the top of my head just now.
A important goal for me in the future will be to get foreign customers. We can offer them prices significantly cheaper with probably better quality than they can get in their own countries.
