Campaign contributions
have not had a lot of luck with my campaign contributions over the years. The first time I contributed to a campaign was back in 2000 when I gave John McCain some money. I see now where that money went to. My money was used to send me mail for the next eight years asking me for more money.
Unfortunately, the money I contributed to former general Wes Clark's campaign in 2004 didn't help him make it out of the primary. When John Kerry became the candidate for the Democrats I grudgingly sent him some money too, but that couldn't help him overcome Florida and Ohio and defeat W.
A contribution from me might even be the death knell for a candidate. Only 48 hours after contributing to John Edwards campaign this year, I read that he plans to drop out of the presidential race. At least he could have waited until after Super Tuesday's elections??
I think going forward I will give up giving money and simply talk with people to persuade them to vote for my favorite candidate. At least that is free and may actually make a difference. My monetary contribution seems to just go into sending off garbage mail that goes into my own garbage can.
Mom jokingly suggested I work at the campaign office of one of the candidates, at least I might meet some nice girls there. I could scope out the offices of Obama and Clinton and see whose staff is cuter and decide.
