Interview with Lydia Part I - Feelings about China and CHinese
Mark: Hi Lydia.
Lydia:Hi Mark.
Mark:How are you?
Lydia:I'm good, how are you?
Mark:I'm good, thank you. Well thank you for allowing me to ask you some questions. I appreciate it.
Lydia:Ok, no problem, but...
Mark:Yeah?
Lydia:First of all, let's keep in mind that the camera adds ten pounds to your face!
Mark: Haha, that's a good one! Ok, Lydia, could you tell me why you came to China?
Lydia: Um, well I was really interested in China. I was interested in Chinese
and I'm Chinese. I was born in San Francisco, but, um, I was, I was just really interested in learning Chinese because Chinese is my language and I should know Chinese, so I decided to come over here after high school.
Mark: Cool, well, how long have you been in China so far?
Lydia: Um, I came here last year September 2005. So it's been a little over a year now.
Mark:Over a year, what do you think of it so far?
Lydia:Oh it's an awesome experience.
Mark:Really?
Lydia:Awesome experience. At first when I came here, I hated it. I wanted to go home but that's natural when anybody goes to a country where they're not familiar with their surroundings and stuff and the language, and this and that. But, after a few months and stuff I really grew to love it and now I really don't plan to go back.
Mark:Really?! You plan to stay in China?
Lydia:I'd love to stay in China. I really would. Before I came here I couldn't imagine leaving the United States and living elsewhere. But now, after coming to China, I couldn't imagine only living in the United States. So I'd really like to spend half my time living in the United States and half my time in China.
Mark:Wow, just a sec.
